Why HRM Cycling Hub?

Halifax is a fantastic city for cyclists. From the scenic waterfront trails to the growing network of bike lanes, there’s so much to explore on two wheels. Events pop up throughout the year, celebrating everything from casual rides to competitive races. And let’s not forget the wealth of local businesses catering to the cycling community!

But here’s the thing: all this amazingness is scattered. Finding the right group, discovering that perfect trail, or even just keeping up with the latest cycling news can feel like a scavenger hunt. You’re clicking through multiple websites, scrolling through social media feeds, and asking around in person, hoping to piece together the full picture.

That’s why we created the HRM Cycling Hub.

We believe that Halifax’s vibrant cycling community deserves a central place to connect, discover, and thrive. This site is designed to be your one-stop portal for all things cycling in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Whether you’re looking for:

  • Routes and maps: Discover new places to ride, from scenic coastal routes to urban bike paths.
  • Group rides and events: Find your tribe and join organized rides or races.
  • Local businesses: Support the shops, cafes, and services that cater to cyclists.
  • News and updates: Stay informed about the latest cycling infrastructure developments and community happenings.
  • Resources and tips: Access valuable information on safety, maintenance, and more.

The HRM Cycling Hub is a work in progress, and we need your help to make it the best it can be! Explore the site, share your feedback, and join the conversation. Together, we can create a stronger, more connected cycling community in HRM.

Welcome to the hub! Let’s ride.

Raised in outport Newfoundland in a town of 65 people, I pursued a post secondary diploma in Information Technology right out of High School. Graduating into the recession of the early 80s, with a student loan at an interest rate of 13.75%, with a diploma, but no clue how to apply for a job or contacts to rely on, led me back home, and eventually into the hotel business from the accounting side. Eventually tiring of a job I didn’t like, I made the decision to go back to school, and moved to Nova Scotia and back into the career I really do love, a Web/Backend/Database developer. A developers desk job wasn't good for my waistline or fitness, so in 2019, I decided to try and do something about that. I'd always loved cycling as a kid, but city riding and hills at 250lbs were scary. Starting with an eBike and since graduating to a "real" bike, I've rediscovered my passion.
